Foodie Fridays: Two Food-Related Poems

Even though I like spring in New England, these two poems have me ready for summer and fresh, local produce that doesn't taste like tennis balls...

"Watermelons"

by Charles Simic

Green Buddhas
On the fruit stand.
We eat the smile
And spit out the teeth.

"This is Just to Say"
by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
